A California-based university recently announced that they would launch Prepare to Excel As a 1L, an online course that aims to get students ready for their first year in law school. This online college program aims to teach people what they can expect at a law institution and the various topics that they should prepare to study.

The university will also offer additional college programs online discussing similar issues, such as a free webinar called Excel as a 1L: The Law School Experience.

Tom Pokladowski, the assistant director for the business, management and legal programs at the university, said that while students who take these classes will have a better understanding of what to expect in law school, it will also give them additional benefits. For example, as these institutions become more competitive, students who have a basic knowledge of the discipline will have an advantage during the application process.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, students who are considering law school should take undergraduate courses in English, foreign languages, public speaking, philosophy, government, history and economics.

Similar classes may be offered during online paralegal programs.
